Residential Deposit Information

Deposits may be required of any Residential customer before services are supplied. MEWS deposit policies are applied without regard to race, color, creed, sex, age, national origin, or marital status. These deposits are based in whole or in part on information obtained in a report from a consumer reporting agency. Residential deposit requirements equal to or less than $00.00 may be met by paying MEWS with cash/check or credit card at the time of the application, to be held as long as service is active, in which it shall earn interest at the rate required by applicable K. R. S. standards that shall be paid when service is disconnected or annually. Upon termination of service, any retained deposit and accrued interest shall be applied against any bills owed to MEWS, if a balance remains after such application, the said balance shall be refunded to the customer.

If a customer wishes to activate services without producing required deposits, they may elect to sign up for our Smartpay Program. New and existing customers are required to buy $100 worth of utilities to start their Smartpay account. All customers will be required to pay a $20 connection fee in addition to the $100, for a total of $120. The customer can add money to extend services at any time. If the customers' account balance is exhausted, the utilities shut off; therefore, the risk of the customer leaving MEWS with unpaid balances is eliminated, so no security deposit is needed.

The reporting agency did not make the decision and is unable to provide you with the specific reasons for the decision. Because information from a consumer credit report was used in evaluating your application, you have the right under the Fair Credit Reporting Act to request a free copy of the credit report from the company listed below within sixty (60) days of your receipt of this notice. If, after receiving a copy of your credit report, you determine that the information is not accurate or complete, you have the right to request that the reporting agency listed below reinvestigate that information.
