All damage must be repaired to the satisfaction of MEWS and must pass an electrical inspection. The customer is responsible for all repairs of their equipment and for obtaining an inspection certificate. A copy of the inspection certificate must be turned in to MEWS before the service will be reconnected.

MEWS reserves the right to “spot” or locate the position of all new services and service upgrades.

Service High Temperature Policy

Mayfield Electric & Water Systems shall utilize its AMI system to monitor its Distribution system for safety and reliability concerns. One monitoring feature or alarm is a high temperature or “Hot Socket” alarm. The notification is triggered when the meter temperature exceeds the designated safe temperature between 70° C to 85°C. Once MEWS receives a high temperature alarm, a Meter Technician shall inspect the meter base for unsafe conditions. During the visual inspection if the Meter Technician deems he or she can make temporary corrections at that time to safely leave the service connected the technician will do so. Commonly the “Hot Socket” alarm is due to the widening of the sockets inside the meter base causing a loose connection. In this case MEWS will apply “Hot Socket Clips” to close the gap and improve the loose connection. At this time, MEWS will discuss the safety concerns with the customer and MEWS’ Metering Department will issue a letter to the customer requesting the service issues/safety concerns be repaired within 45 days from the date the incident occurred. During the 45 days if an alarm occurs a second-time MEWS shall leave the service off until the repairs have been made and the required inspection completed.

Upon the initial or first alarm, if the Meter Technician deems the service cannot be made safe at that time the service must be left disconnected until the repairs are made and the inspection completed. All damage/safety concerns must be repaired to the satisfaction of MEWS and must pass an electrical inspection. The customer is responsible for all repairs of their equipment and for obtaining an inspection certificate. A copy of the inspection certificate must be turned in to MEWS before the service will be reconnected.

All meters, service connections, and other equipment furnished by Mayfield Electric & Water Systems shall be, and remain the property of MEWS.

It is unlawful for anyone other than MEWS personnel to make meter connections or any other form of alteration to standard utility services. If evidence indicates any form of alteration, the customer shall be subject to the penalties in the MEWS Meter Tampering Policy.
