On March 16th, 2020, Mayfield Electric & Water Systems suspended all post and prepaid disconnects. Since then, many customers were fortunate enough to pay their bill, while others have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. MEWS would like to encourage anyone with a delinquent balance to contact our office to set up a payment plan. Any MEWS customer who is delinquent and has not set up a payment arrangement by November 16th will be disconnected.

If you or someone you know is having trouble paying their energy bills, the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) may be able to help. In April, the Tennessee Valley Authority announced a partnership with local power companies including Mayfield Electric & Water Systems. The announcement provided $2 million dollars in matching funds to support local initiatives that address hardships created by the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The COVID-19 Community Care Fund was created to amplify vital work being done by nonprofit organizations to support families and businesses affected by the pandemic conditions. Mayfield Electric & Water Systems was able to assist seven non-profit organizations in April. Mayfield Electric & Water Systems donated $10,000 and TVA matched the donation for a total of $20,000 to disperse to our local non-profit organizations. In September 2020, TVA announced the availability of funding for a second round of Community Care Fund.

Mayfield Electric & Water Systems realizes the hardships COVID-19 has created for many customers, which is why MEWS along with TVA will disperse $20,000 to three organizations in our community, West Kentucky Allied, Annie Gardner Foundation, and Graves County Needline & Food Pantry. MEWS believes these non-profit organizations will assist in areas most vital to families in need during these uncertain times. The forementioned non-profit organizations help families with rent, utilities, and non perishable food.

Through the second round of Community Care Funding, the Annie Gardner Foundation will receive an additional $7,500.00. The Annie Gardner Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to benefit the Graves County community through its work. MEWS is glad to be able to assist the Annie Gardner Foundation in helping neighbors in our community. Executive Director Teresa Cantrell stated “The Annie Gardner foundation is being inundated with even more assistance requests during this unprecedented time with people being off from work because of COVID19. We assist our clients with utility payments, rent and mortgage payments, and will use the funds to be able to assist clients that we normally aren’t able to assist”.

West Kentucky Allied has played a large role in assisting families struggling due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, which is why MEWS chose West Kentucky Allied to receive an additional $7,500 through the round two of Community Care Funding. West Kentucky Allied is an organization who assist low income families throughout the County with the cost of rent, mortgage, car payments, groceries and medication.
Lastly, MEWS chose the Graves County Needline and Food Pantry as the third community enrichment organization to receive funds through the second round of Community Care Funding. Needline will receive an additional $5,000 from MEWS/TVA. The Graves County Needline & Food Pantry help over 1,000 families each month and distribute food to Senior Citizens in our community. MEWS knows the impact that Needline has on our community which is why they were again chosen for the grant.

MEWS is excited to announce the installation of a payment kiosk. The self-service kiosk allows customer to process payments 24/7. The kiosk walks customers through step by step in processing their payments. Our payment kiosk accepts cash, checks, and credit cards. Those customers who wish to use credit card will be charged a $2.50 convenience fee. The kiosk allows customers to have real-time confirmation of all payments made, allowing customers to stay up to date on their MEWS utility bill. Should you need assistance during business hours, feel free to come inside and one of our Customer Service Representatives will be glad to assist you.

 

During the COVID-19 Pandemic, MEWS has made some change in operations. From this point forward, customers have the ability to handle all payments, transactions, service orders by phone, mail, drive thru, on our website, or try out our NEW kiosk that has replaced our night deposit box.

MEWS Lobby is open and adhering to CDC Guidelines of Social Distancing by limiting our occupancy to 5 Customers at a time and maintaining 6 feet apart. Please be patient with us as work through this together. We appreciate our customers and look forward to a full return to normal and remember those impacted by COVID-19.
