Top Kentucky Utilities Honored as Wooden Bucket Finalists
During this year’s Awards Luncheon at Kentucky Rural Water Association’s (KRWA) Annual Conference & Exhibition, ten outstanding water and wastewater utilities were recognized as finalists for the prestigious Wooden Bucket Award. The finalists were honored for their remarkable service and commitment to delivering high-quality drinking water and wastewater services to their communities. Dr. Thomas Carew, State Director of USDA-Rural Development, presented plaques of recognition to the following utilities: Adairville Waterworks, Berea Municipal Utilities, Boone County Water District, Harrodsburg Municipal Water Department, Leitchfield Utilities, Louisa Utilities Commission, Mayfield Electric and Water System, North Nelson Water District, Southeastern Water Association, and Western Mason Water District.
The Wooden Bucket Award is given annually to a water and/or wastewater utility that has demonstrated substantial and lasting improvements in customer service, operational excellence, and regulatory compliance. All of the finalists have shown exceptional efforts in enhancing their operations and meeting the needs of their respective communities. The award is a testament to their dedication and hard work in ensuring the provision of safe, reliable, and high-quality water and wastewater services.
The Awards Ceremony took place during KRWA’s Annual Conference & Exhibition, held from August 26-28, 2024, at the Central Bank Center in Lexington, Kentucky, marking 45 years of "Helping Utilities…Help Themselves." Nearly 900 professionals from Kentucky’s public drinking water and wastewater utilities attended this annual event. The conference provided a platform for industry experts to share insights, while attendees had the opportunity to network, explore Kentucky’s largest exhibition of products and services for utilities, and discuss the theme "Changes Ahead."
