LED Outdoor Lighting

You may have noticed things have gotten a little brighter on Paris Rd., Broadway, and other areas throughout Mayfield. MEWS began replacing the HPS (High Pressure Sodium) streetlights with advanced new LED (light-emitting diode) street lights.

The crisp bright light makes the streets safer for citizens of Mayfield whether walking or driving, by decreasing the poorly lit areas between poles. The LED light projects a much cooler bright white light vs. dull yellow light provided by HPS.

The reduction of energy consumption and increased efficiency are key components driving the project. Up to a 50% savings in energy consumption translates into lower energy bills for the City of Mayfield.

LEDs can last up to 50,000 hours while HPS bulbs can last as little as 5,000 hours. Reducing the amount of inconvenience our customers experience from street lights that are out. Fewer non-working street lights reduce the amount of service calls for linemen involving lamp replacement. The reduced maintenance cost on the more reliable fixtures will lower operating cost for MEWS.
